Shirley Chan is a senior at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon studying journalism, with a focus in multimedia and business. Chan has produced stories in the Pacific Northwest all the way to Western Africa. Chan has covered a variety of topics, from therapy llamas to #BlackLivesMatter protest to veterans using cannabis as a safe alternative to treating PTSD to reproductive health rights in Ghana.
Chan has reported for her university’s award-winning publications FLUX Magazine and Ethos Magazine. Additionally, she worked as video editor for OR Magazine, the university’s premier iPad publication. She interned with Eugene-based video production company AO Films and was later hired on as an Assistant Editor. In addition to AO, she worked as a multimedia producer for OR Media, the University of Oregon’s in-house production team.
Last summer, she developed advocacy content for an Accra-based NGO called Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights while in Ghana. This summer, Chan interned as a digital production assistant with Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, Oregon.
