Lam works with Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), conducting 10 hours of service a week, mentoring K-2nd Grade students. Last year, Lam also interned as a Creative Director Assistant with ART 180, an art-based nonprofit organization which creates self-advocacy programs for underprivileged youth in the Richmond community. Lam gained her first journalism experience writing for Odyssey, an American internet media company, in 2015. Last spring, she launched the first chapter of Her Campus, the #1 new-media brand for empowered college woman, at her university and now serves as the Campus Correspondent and Editor-in-Chief. Lam has covered topics in pillars of news, entertainment, travel, and opinion. In 2017, Lam’s documentary short film Returning to the Homeland: Taiwan was featured as official selection in the Richmond International Film Festival. In the following summer, Lam worked as a Media Specialist under the City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department. Here, she held a producer role, creating documentary short films for the Virginia Beach Summer Youth Employment Program. Now, in Morocco, Lam hopes to continue combining her passions for social justice, writing, and visual storytelling in effort to seek and share the rich stories of this vibrant country. Lam’s work can be viewed at www.jeanettelam.com.
