Gillian Coyne

Program Communication Directors

Gillian is a junior at Bates College, where she is pursuing a French and Francophone Studies and Rhetoric double major, with a concentration in film and media studies. During the school year, Gillian spends her time outside of class working with asylum seekers in the Lewiston community, co-chairing the Bates Francophone Club, and participating in the club ski, sailing, and equestrian teams. In the past Gillian has interned for New York Minute Magazine and AFAR Media. Having already studied abroad in France, Gillian was looking for a French-speaking country that could challenge her cultural understanding and enhance her language skills. She is excited to hone her fieldwork training while uncovering and producing compelling stories, with a particular focus on lingering francophone influence in Morocco. In addition to exploring issues through the lens of journalism, Gillian can’t wait to practice her French, learn Arabic, and get a taste of life in Morocco.
