Jessica Lartigue is currently at junior at Carleton College pursuing a bachelor’s degree in America Studies with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. As an American Studies major, she is interested in the discourses surrounding identity politics and mass media. She has received the Posse Foundation Full Tuition Leadership Scholarship and the Mellon Mayes Undergraduate Research Fellowship. With this fellowship, she is currently studying the dichotomy between black performativity and the white gaze through social media.
As a student who is passionate about active learning and scholarship, Jessie decided to study abroad with this program because it reflects her interests in independent research, freelance journalism, and transnational studies. Although she has previously contributed to her campus student-run publications, she hopes that this program will help her receive more formal journalism training.
